Universal Orlando Resort became a multi-day destination in 1999, the year in which Universal’s Islands of Adventure was opened. It is widely regarded as one of the world’s best theme parks. Most areas are elaborately themed, there are some world-class dark rides and three amazing water rides. Especially those water rides are worth mentioning, since they’re known to be soaking wet. That’s not a problem in Orlando’s tropical heat, but you’d better skip Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls and Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges if you’re afraid of water. My favourite ride at Islands of Adventure is called The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man: this 3D attraction is very immersive and it offers action as well as humour. Another overwhelming ride is Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. This dark ride features a unique Robocoaster ride system, which makes the ride experience rather intense. Don’t visit this ride if you have a weak stomach: it’s quite nauseating.
Universal’s Islands of Adventure is without a doubt a great theme park. However, there are some weaknesses: the park lacks another good roller coaster and I think that they should add some extra rides which can be enjoyed by the whole family. At this time, most rides are either thrilling or very childish. The new coaster which is currently under construction at Harry Potter’s Wizarding World may fulfill this need. I hope so.
